Our Projects

Every semester members have the opportunity to work on a different project team. Read below to see the teams for our upcoming semester!

Machine Learning Arbitrage

This team will be focusing on understanding the foundations of machine learning by implementing a data structure that trains on historical correlational relationships to make predictions on future options.

Discretionary Trading Data Collection

This team will be implementing a system to read through public domain webpages and create a predictive index for a small group of related stocks in order to gather generalized data at a highly efficient rate.

About Us

Founded in 2024, Michigan Technological Investments is the first project-based algorithmic trading club at the University of Michigan

Our Purpose

MTI was formed to be an outlet for students with a passion for mathematics and computer science to practice their skills in real-world contexts.

Members have the opportunity to form and join a different project team every semester. Covering topics from statistical arbitrage and HFT to neural networks and public database word processing, these teams can explore infinite possible methods to processing and understanding economic data. As long as your team can write the algorithm, there is no idea too crazy to test!

In order to encourage members to take risks and explore uncharted topics, we backtest all algorithms over years of data, as opposed to holding an active fund. This allows us to uphold a comfortable, stress-free environment within our community.

Why Join Us

Technical Experience

Our primary focus as a club is to equip our members with a greater understanding of algorithmic and quantitative finance. Because of our semester-long project team framework, you will have the opportunity to explore a multitude of different topics throughout your membership. No matter what topic under the umbrella of finance or technology you want to gain experience with, you can do so through MTI.

Welcoming Community

What really makes MTI great is the emphasis on community. You'll find that every member who is extremely passionate about their area of interest is equally passionate about introducing new people to it. Through club events and working with your project teams, you'll have the opportunity to get to know and spend time with people from all different backgrounds who share the same passion for CS / Math as you.

Low Pressure Learning

One of the foundational goals of MTI is to provide a space where students can comfortably make mistakes and explore new topics without a fear of failure. By taking steps like eliminating professional dress from meetings and backtesting our algorithms without real money, we've set out to make sure that there are no external pressures impeding any member's ability to learn.
